At A Child’s Wish, it is our goal to provide donations to every children’s ward in the UK. All hospitals will need assistance and we can only do it with your support!
A is for... Alder Hey
Based in Liverpool, Alder Hey is one of Europe’s most significant specific children’s hospitals. Because Alder Hey treats everything from common conditions to particularly complex and rare illnesses and procedures, it is responsible for over three hundred thousand patients every year. With a history dating back to 1914, the hospital was also used to treat both allied and German soldiers during both wars and with its incredible array of medical excellence, technology and care, the hospital and it’s associated clinics are a vital part of children’s healthcare in the UK.
B is for... Birmingham Children’s Hospital
Internationally recognised for playing a leading role in the most advanced treatments, procedures and research, Birmingham Children’s Hospital hosts one of the world’s finest centres for complex heart conditions in children. The hospital also specialises in vital organ transplants for children, and the treatment of burns. Also of vital importance is their dedicated centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services which is one of the largest in England.
C is for... Chesterfield Royal Hospital
As a dedicated paediatric ward, the Nightingale Ward is able to offer outdoor and indoor play areas, a school room and teenage facilities for young adults, along with a parents coffee room for families to relax whilst visiting their children. The hospital provides a high level of care and support for children and young adults from their first day to their seventeenth birthday.
D is for... Derbyshire Children's Hospital
Situated in the heart of the midlands, Derbyshire Children’s Hospital is involved in the provision of expert care for over one hundred thousands children from all over the country every year. The hospital features a family accommodation centre so that parents can be with their children throughout treatment and procedures, and is home to the Ronnie MacKeith centre for children who have special and educational requirements.
E is for... Evelina London Children's Hospital
This incredible hospital has recently celebrated 150 years of providing care for children and young people. Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge is the hospital’s patron, and this patronage is instrumental in raising support

F is for... Furness General Hospital
The Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Furness General Hospital provides specialist care for preterm babies and also for babies that develop illnesses immediately or shortly after birth. Through recent fundraising the unit also accommodates areas for families to remain close to their baby whilst treatment is ongoing. There is also a stabilisation facility in SCBU for babies that require intensive care to prepare them for transfer to other hospitals. Due to the hospital’s rural location, it is an essential lifeline for the local community.
G is for... Glasgow Children’s Hospital
As Scotland’s largest children’s hospital, most seriously ill children in Scotland will be looked after here. The state of the art facilities allow the treatment of many conditions with specialist services including cardiology and cardiac surgery, renal and bone marrow transplantation and a paediatric intensive care unit. There are over 240 beds
at the hospital and for a number of the services offered, they are recognised as the sole provider in Scotland.

H is for... Hull Royal Infirmary
The Acorn ward for children, houses an amazing team of specialists who always endeavour to make the time that their patients spend with them as positive as possible. Dealing with a wide range of emergencies and specialist treatments, Hull Royal Infirmary is responsible for caring for thousands of child patients every year and it is a pleasure to be able to assist them.
I is for... Ipswich Hospital
Ipswich Hospital has origins that can be traced back to the 19th century. The children’s ward at Ipswich Hospital treats many childhood ailments and conditions, including diabetes and cystic fibrosis. The hospital is currently working on developing their children’s department to increase the number of beds, and to create a dedicated teenage and young person area. A Child’s Wish is proud to have been able to

J is for... James Paget University Hospital
The James Paget University hospital, was opened in 1982 and assists people from Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Waveney and further afield. The Children’s and Young Person’s Ward provides surgical and medical care from newborn babies to nineteen year olds. The hospital is able to provide overnight accommodation for families, and the children’s treatment room is decorated in the style of a jungle to provide distraction for children undergoing procedures.
K is for... Kettering General Hospital
The Skylark Ward at Kettering General Hospital provides a modern, and comfortable environment for the treatment of children. The importance of easing anxiety amongst both patients and their families is emphasized by the facility providing pull down parent’s beds alongside the hospital beds so that families can be close to their children whilst they are receiving treatment

L is for... Leeds Children’s Hospital
Leeds Children’s Hospital is one of the UK’s largest children’s hospitals with a wide range of treatments and facilities available for paediatric patients. The hospital regularly provides care for patients with cancer, transplant requirements, and heart surgery. They have extensive
facilities for distraction therapy to allow their patients to feel more at ease and cope wqith the changes they are experiencing. Covering the Yorkshire and Humber regions they play a major role in the treatment of babies and children in the UK.

M is for... Royal Manchester Children's Hospital
Treating over a quarter of a million patients every year, the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital has saved and improved millions of young lives since the new hospital opened in 2009. As well as being able to deal with many illnesses and injuries, the hospital also houses the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital’s Burns Unit, which is the largest specialist Burns Unit in the UK.
N is for... Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales
Opened in 2006, the hospital is the only dedicated children’s hospital in Wales, treating over seventy thousand patients every year. Patients are cared for with pioneering medical equipment in computer integrated operating theatres, and to assist with their recovery and allow their patients to continue to enjoy their childhood, the facilities include indoor play areas on every ward and an incredible outdoor play garden which even has a maze!
O is for... Oxford Children’s Hospital
Most children’s services in Oxford are based at the Children’s Hospital on the John Radcliffe Hospital site in a purpose-built environment for children. There is provision for an extensive range of treatments and services to support children throughout the Thames Valley area and further afield, including specialist teams for rheumatology and inflammatory diseases, bone and muscular conditions and cardiology and oncology.
P is for... Peterborough City Hospital
The Amazon Children’s Ward at Peterborough City Hospital proudly provides a comprehensive paediatric service for all children up to the age of 16. The ward has specialists in orthopaedic surgery, paediatric urology and ENT surgery and some specialist maxillo-facial surgery. Children with chronic disease continue to receive paediatric care beyond the age of 16 if required. Facilities to make the ward child-friendly include a play room, soft play room, and sensory room, all of which provide distraction therapy and help to normalise the process of being in hospital for the young patients. For older children, Amazon features ‘The ‘den’ which houses age appropriate equipment for teenagers in a separate area to the younger children; including the latest games consoles and board games.

Q is for... Queen Mary's Hospital for Children
Queen Mary’s (Surray) proudly provides specialist care for a wide range of paediatric cases which include cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease and llizarov fixation which is a lengthening procedure for children who have been born with shortened limbs. The children’s wards are expertly staffed by a team of dedicated children’s nurses, health care assistants and play specialists.
R is for... Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital
Known locally as “The Alex”, the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital supports children throughout the county of Sussex and the whole of the South East of England. The many facilities at the Alex include intensive and in/outpatient care, and a dedicated Children’s Emergency Department.
Around fifty thousand babies, children and teenagers receive treatment each year at the Alex and in recent years they have expanded their facilities to include a Gastrointestinal Nutrition Unit and a fantastic sensory garden which features
a canopy so it can be used in all weathers!

S is for... Southampton Children’s Hospital
Southampton Children’s Hospital is the sixth-largest children’s hospital in the country and one of only four which provides all specialist services on one site. It treats 150,000 children each year from across the UK. Making it one of the busiest in the UK, the teams at Southampton are able to offer the diagnosis and treatment of many illnesses ranging from allergies to cardiac disorders, whilst the Piam Brown specialist unit assists children with all types of cancer from birth to 16 years old. This wide range of facilities means that there is always a need for financial support, and we are delighted to have been able to make a donation to them.
T is for... Tunbridge Wells Hospital
In 2016, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust opened a dedicated children’s A&E at Tunbridge Wells Hospital – the first of its kind in Kent. A team of Play Specialists supports all the units allowing the children to play and learn whilst in hospital. The team at Tunbridge Wells includes specialist nurses, trained in such areas as diabetes, gastroenterology, respiratory ailments and oncology. These nurses support the patient in and out of the hospital environment ensuring continuity of care.
U is for... University Hospital Coventry
Opened in 2006 the Children’s in-patient unit and Children’s Emergency Department at University Hospital Coventry has over fifty beds for children and infants and deals with approximately thirty thousand attendees and over four thousand admissions yearly. The hospital itself is well known for its 24 hour a day hospital radio station which helps patients young and old to relaxduring their stay.
R is for... Royal Victoria Hospital
The Children’s Hospital on the Royal Hospitals site in Belfast is the only hospital in Northern Ireland dedicated specifically to the care of children. The services provided include radiology, dentistry, critical care and the treatment of burns, including plastic surgery. For children living in Belfast and Northern Ireland, the hospital provides most of the paediatric healthcare that they will need and it is a privilege to support them, and to help wishes come true for the children that they look after.
W is for... Weston General Hospital
Paediatric care at Weston General Hospital is housed inThe Seashore Centre, which is a unit for the age group of 0 – 16 years and was opened to provide care closer to home for local children and their families.

electronic games to help to distract and entertain the children.

X is for... X-Rays
The Bradford Hospital’s Charity are raising funds to refurbish the radiology waiting areas at Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke’s Hospital to make them more child-friendly to reduce anxiety and stress in their patients.
Rooms that are used for X-ray, CT scans, MRI scand and
ultrasound scans will be redecorated in a manner that will calm and relax children which can reduce the need for a general anaesthetic. The appeal is seeking to add music systems to relax children as they are scanned and the ability to play films for children as they undergo an MRI scan. This is a great appeal and one that we are delighted to have helped with.

Y is for... Yeovil District Hospital
The children’s ward at Yeovil District Hospital is able to provide care for children from birth to young adults up to twenty years of age. The emphasis is on providing an environment that will alleviate the stress that both young patients and their families can face when a child needs to go to hospital, and in keeping with this there are facilities not only for play, but also a school for children staying during term time.
